Experienced Valuation Expert

I qualified as a Chartered Accountant of South Africa in 2005, and have subsequently also registered as an Associate Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).

Shortly after completing my audit training contract at KPMG, I moved into the Corporate Finance team. Even at university, I had always had a passion for Valuations – of businesses, of shares, of anything. For me, Valuations was the meeting place of Economics, Finance, Current Affairs and Mathematics. In no time at all, I therefore began specialising in Valuations and advising clients in a range of different industries around their challenges. To bolster my technical knowledge, I also qualified as a Chartered Financial Analyst (“CFA”) through CFA Institute.

Between 2010 and 2011, I enjoyed an international assignment at KPMG Chicago (in the USA). Always eager to expand the breadth of my Valuations’ skillset, I spent time here learning how to value Real Estate and Plant & Machinery. Over the years, since qualifying as an account, I had always made an effort to stay up to date with all developments in International Financial Reporting Standards (“IFRS”). This stood me in good stead as, between 2014 and mid-2017 as an Associate Director within KPMG’s Deal Advisory team, I was primarily responsible for the IFRS Valuations’ portfolio.

I was not limited to only IFRS Valuations, however, and also managed an impressive portfolio that included Real Estate Valuations (of all the major shopping malls in South Africa), Financial Instrument Valuations (Vanilla instruments as well as Exotic instruments) and Financial Modelling.

In order to gain commercial experience, I moved to Transaction Capital Limited in mid-2017. While here I was responsible for the Group Valuations as well as oversight and management of the Group’s Long-Term Incentive Schemes. During 2020, I played a pivotal role in Transaction Capital’s landmark acquisition of an equity stake in WeBuyCars. I was primarily responsible for the construction of the Financial Model, which produced dynamic monthly forecasts, calculated Valuations (both Pre-Acquisition and Post-Acquisition), performed the Purchase Price Allocation (for IFRS 3 purposes) and provided all Implementation Accounting.

Appreciating the importance of Financial Modelling, particularly when combined with Valuations, I joined Deloitte South Africa in mid-2021 to head up, and grow, the Financial Modelling team. During this time, my team constructed a Financial Model that assisted an international electricity provider becoming the preferred bidder to the Botswana Government. I also developed my Capital Allocation methodology during this time, and worked with Exxaro Resources Limited in this regard to assist them with their portfolio allocations.

I left Deloitte in early 2023 to start my own business. With a vast amount of experience gathered over the years, I believe that I now bring the perfect combination of highly technical valuations, practical commercial experience and high-quality deliverables.
